Unfissured soils are soils in which the individual soil aggregates do not
have an apparent fracture zone. The wetting and sample preparation
procedure and the ECS test were performed as described in Section
IV.A.2.c. and Table 1.4. The dry and wet samples were prepared by placing
dry soil in a stainless steel container with the soil particles exposed
to air. The container and the soil were packed with a stainless steel
plate to ensure uniformity of specimen packing. Each sample was
placed on a vibrating table and vibrated for 30 seconds at 1,800
cycles per second. After vibrations, the container was filled with
soil to the top with tap water. To accelerate the drying process,
wetting was done by placing the container, filled with soil and water,
in a refrigerator at 4 degrees C. For the wetted samples, the
vibrations were performed twice more at 1,800 cycles per second.
The wet and dry samples were then tested.
Samples that crack in a 2-inch ring are to be considered out of the range of unfissured cohesive materials, and the unconfined compressive strength should be determined using a graduated cylinder with a capacity of 50 gallons or more.
Luke Skywalker's lightsaber is recovered after he is forced to abandon his ship due to a malfunction on his hyperspace tracker, and his ship is destroyed by the TIE fighters of the Death Star before he can escape aboard it.[4] His lightsaber is later recovered and given to his son, Ben Skywalker,[1] and is later used by Luke when he has to fight his lightsaber-wielding nephew Kylo Ren at the end of Return of the Jedi.[7]
The crossguard lightsaber was a powerful weapon with an enormous amount of power to cut through a droid in two. After it was damaged, the crossguard blade could be retracted to form a secondary blade that was equally powerful. At its full extension, the crossguard blade could cut through a Wookiee in half.[5] As a side effect of the laser's power, the crossguard's beam failed to stabilize at full power and therefore was easily defeated by Force lightning.[15] After the crossguard's full extension, it could be brought back up to its full extension, which was a powerful and deadly weapon. Unlike a laser blade, the crossguard blade could be used as a normal lightsaber, but it was too dangerous to be used in this manner since it could cut through a droid in two as it was being cut, causing it to recoil.[5] However, in a self-sacrifice to save Luke's life in the Yavin 4 battle, Ren allowed himself to be hit by his lightsaber so he could be electrocuted and destroy the control crystal of his lightsaber, thus depriving himself of the power the crossguard blade held.
