Any reason to not use JavaScript to animate an iframe page?

Often when writing a web page I'll include a javascript that'll go to an iframe page and do something (like show a button, or display a message).

It seems like most web frameworks have either built in animation support or they can be embedded in the iframe and it'll just be animated too.

Is there any reason I should prefer one method over the other? Is there any downside to using a javascript approach as opposed to a pure css one? I'd really like to hear any kind of arguments for either method as they both seem to work well.

You might want to use Javascript to animate an iframe if:

You have dynamic content. For instance, a slideshow of images. If the slideshow is updated every few seconds, embedding the slideshow in the page itself would not be appropriate.

You want control over the timing of the animation. With a Javascript-embedded iframe, you can animate it in steps using code. If you need a smooth animation, you can use setTimeout() and clearTimeout() to achieve this effect.

The main reason not to use Javascript to animate an iframe is that you will have two separate HTTP requests instead of one. So you might want to do that to reduce the bandwidth used, or just because you don't want to. For instance, it might be a waste of bandwidth to load an iframe with an image only to scroll it to display another image.
